Dr. Kristopher Kleine
Dr. Kleine is a 2006 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. He has been caring for pets in Barrow and Gwinnett County ever since. Dr. Kleine’s professional interests include performance dog medicine having served as an Iditarod veterinarian, senior pet care, internal medicine, and everything Dachshund.
Outside of Happy Tails, Dr. Kleine spends time with his wife, Stephanie, and his daughter Catherine. They have 4 high maintenance rescue dogs, Toccoa, Mercy, Layla, and Sterling, each with their own set of unique medical requirements. In their spare time, they can be found camping and hiking in the North Georgia Mountains. Dr. Kleine also enjoys listening to his daughter’s band, running, cycling, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and working on antique air-cooled cars.
Dr. Stephanie Kleine
Dr. Stephanie Kleine is a 2010 graduate of the University of Georgia. Upon graduation, she completed a small animal rotating internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta. She, then, returned to UGA to complete a residency in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia and a PhD in Comparative Physiology and Pharmacology. She is now an Assistant Professor in Veterinary Anesthesia but is available for high risk patients and consults. Dr. Kleine’s professional interests include anesthesia of the critical small and large animal patient, and pain management, especially pertaining to osteoarthritis.
In her spare time, Dr. Kleine enjoys spending time with her husband, Kris and daughter, Catherine. She also enjoys yoga, cycling, CrossFit, and being outdoors.
Dr. Sara Tanner
Dr. Sara Tanner is a 2021 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include dermatology, internal medicine, and surgery.
Dr. Tanner enjoys horseback riding and running in her free time. She has a Bichon Frise and a Standard Poodle. Dr. Tanner and her husband love to go hiking with their poodle. She also enjoys cheering on the Tigers, as she completed her bachelor’s degree at Clemson University.
Dr. Harshal Patel
Harshal is a 2024 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. He also completed his undergraduate degree at UGA. His professional interests include dermatology, preventative medicine, nutrition, and internal medicine.
He has two adorable cats named Ragu and Ivy. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and friends, weightlifting and running, cooking, enjoying the city of Athens, watching football, and learning to golf.

Samantha Slama, RVT
Samantha graduated in 2007 from the University of Illinois pursuing a career with the animals she has always loved. Known as the “Cat Whisperer,” she has more than 15 years of technician experience, with 10 years as a licensed RVT. As Happy Tails has grown, she has stepped into the role of Practice Manager, and aspires to become certified in this role as well. When not at work, she enjoys gardening, DIY home improvement projects, and spending quality time with her husband, a fellow Crazy Cat guy.
Karen
Karen is a graduate of the University of Georgia where she got her degree in Music Education. Karen has been interested in joining the veterinary field for several years until she finally found her place here at Happy Tails. Karen loves all furry animals but is especially fond of cats and has had her current furbaby for the past 3 years. Karen classifies herself as a “major nerd” and loves Marvel comics and movies, fantasy, and science fiction. She also passes her time coloring and teaching herself to draw.
Beth
Beth joined the Happy Tails team in 2018 as a part-time veterinary assistant. She is also a full-time student at the University of North Georgia and will be graduating with her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in May of 2021. Beth has applied to the University of Georgia’s veterinary medicine program and is awaiting acceptance. In her limited spare time, Beth enjoys hiking with her dogs, Earl and Clementine, relaxing with her cats, and swimming.
Alex B.
Alex B. is a graduate from the University of North Georgia where she received a degree in Psychology. She was a Pre- K teacher for 2 years and has a teaching certification from Lanier Technical College. After that time, Alex B. decided on a career change and sought out an opportunity at Happy Tails. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family and friends. She also loves cuddling up with all of her fur babies, having a good Marvel or Game of Thrones Marathon, and baking sweet treats.
Alex L.
Alex has been a vet assistant for 7 years. She was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia but is very proud of her Argentine and Mexican roots. She likes to spend her free time with her spoiled rotten cat, Milanesa and her tripod boxer, Laylah.
Gina
My name is Gina Scott and I am thrilled to work with and care for all of the fur babies every day at Happy Tails. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Vet Technology from Athens Technical College. Animals of all kinds have always been a passion of mine. During my free time, I love spending time with my own fur babies and with family and friends.
